Pajama Concerts
Pajama Concerts share classic children’s literature and live chamber music, performed on period instruments, in a relaxed and inclusive setting.
Blankets, pillows, and favorite stuffed animals are welcome, and a bedtime snack follows.
These 45-minute programs are designed for families with children ages 4-10, but older and younger siblings are welcome of course!
Programs
Shipwreck!
Hoist your sails and brace yourselves for the musical high seas! In this Pajama Concert, Baroque music for two violins based on famous literary seafaring adventures (Gulliver’s Travels, The Tempest, The Odyssey), is performed on period instruments and paired with a reading of Chris Van Allsburg’s fantastical tale The Wreck of the Zephyr. Music of Telemann, Purcell and Morley. 45 minutes.
Wild Things
It's time for a wild rumpus! Join in a game of musical charades featuring quirky 17th century chamber music mimicking members of the animal kingdom and other zaniness. Sandra Boynton's simple yet poignant counting book Hippos Go Berserk! and Maurice Sednak's timeless classic Where the Wild Things Are will leave you hungry for a bedtime snack of...hot porridge, perhaps? Music of Biber and Farina performed on violin and theorbo. 45 minutes.
